About our school

Our school forms an integral part of the local community, which is well known for its appreciation of the arts and the environment.

The school community is committed to creating a learning environment which is safe, tolerant and supportive for all people associated with our school.

Our aim is to develop each student intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally to prepare them for life long learning. The provision of quality education through a balanced curriculum, challenges and rewards students, while enabling them to fulfil their potential.

Leura Public School officially opened on March 6th, 1906 with an enrolment of 41pupils but by the end of April this number had risen to 84. The original school was timber building designed to accommodate 144 pupils. The first principal, or teacher –in-charge was Mr. Gollan.

The school population grew so rapidly that the Dept of lands needed to release more land in 1912, 1956 and 1968.

Unfortunately the original school buildings were destroyed on December 2nd, 1957 by a bushfire that devastated the villages of Leura and Wentworth Falls. The steps of the original building can be found on the edge of the Thanksgiving Foundation garden.
