Music

Patrick Connor teaches classroom Music at Leura.

Aural, visual, motor and analytical skills are honed each lesson as students gradually dissect songs they have unconsciously memorized during musical games and dances. Students become able to quickly recognize the elements of music aurally and visually, reading and writing music, "inner hearing" and sight-reading. Recorders, xylophones, chime bars and guitars are in use during music class, with more tuned percussion and ukuleles to be incorporated during the year.

Music ensemble class is a fortnightly highlight at Leura, changing composition according to the needs and interests of students. Ensembles and individuals rehearse and prepare for auditions and performance opportunities. There is a committed choral tradition at Leura with students taking part in the Primary Proms state level music concert in Sydney.

Leura proudly takes part in the Upper Blue Mountains Music Festival each year providing further choral and individual performance opportunities.

OzOpera provides students with a dazzling live operatic concert, alternating annually with Music Viva's touring ensemble program in providing highest quality professional musical experiences for our students.
