This term teachers across K-6 have been implementing Simon Breakspear’s Teaching Sprints into their math’s lessons, specifically in the area of Quantifying Numbers. Teaching Sprints is an evidence-informed approach, assisting teachers in the making of incremental changes and improvements in their own practice.
Teachers have focused on Cognitive Load Theory for their sprints. This theory states that when teaching students new content, teachers are more effective when they provide explicit, repeated and revisited instruction. There are three phases to Teaching Sprints – Prepare, Sprint and Review. Our teachers are currently in the sprint phase.
